Abdominal Training; developing the six-pack

Many of our lady subscribers are asking about developing a six-pack.

Lets start off with some basics

A good six pack is a result of two factors;

1. Good muscled structure as a result of exercise

2. Low amounts of fat around the waist as a result of sensible eating

So This week we give you a short tip on each of these topics as you tone up for the summer holidays.

Are Your Eyes Bigger Than Your Stomach?

Ever heard of the saying “Your eyes are bigger than your stomach”? Well, use your eyes to reduce the amount you eat. Using the “eyeball” method will help you visualize your portions so you can keep them in control. For example, 1 cup of dry cereal is approximately the size of your fist, and a 150 gram serving of lean chicken is the size of a deck of cards. By using the eyeball method, you can keep your portions in check when you are out and about.

Better Ab Crunches with Less Strain

Crunches may be the most effective abdominal toning exercises there are, if executed with proper form. When crunches are done incorrectly, the abs don’t get the workout they could. Even worse, the neck and back can be strained in the process. The key to good crunching is to let your abs do the work, and not some of the other body parts that seem to want to get involved.

Next time you crunch, focus on keeping these areas still:

  1. HEAD AND NECK. To avoid bending your neck forward as you lift yourself up, pretend there is a grapefruit between your chin and upper chest.
  2. ELBOWS. If you’re doing crunches with your hands on your head, keep your elbows pointed outward throughout each crunch.
  3. LOWER BACK, keep your lower back pressed against the floor.
